As researchers and doctors, we know where the shoe pinches. Too often the tools we use are created by people with a purely administrative background who do not understand our work. Sadly that holds true regardless of whether we’re talking about our daily clinical work, research tools, or conference management assistance. Being active doctors and researchers we create products we want to use ourselves.
Nordic FreeFold, the company behind SummitFold was founded by Dr. Morten Andresen because he—like many doctors before him—thought it must be possible to create better medical applications than the ones that already existed. Creating intuitive, user friendly products with a modern design that we would want to use ourselves is the company’s mission and foundation.
Fully bootstraped from personal funds, the company has a clear vision for creating better tools for researchers. No outside funds and no outside investment interests mean we don’t have to compromise on creating the best experience for conference organizers.
Morten has a PhD in clinical research based on work at the Department of Neurosurgery at Copenhagen University Hospital, and was a visiting honorary researcher at Cambridge University, England. He has worked as a medical doctor for many years. Having experience with coding from his youth, Morten originally set out to give himself and his colleagues a better tool for writing notes for the medical chart, and thus Nordic FreeFold was born.
He has chosen to put his clinical neurosurgical career on hold to pursue his vision of creating gorgeous-looking easy-to-use web applications to help the medical community with their everyday clinical and research-related tasks. He remains very active in neurosurgical research, and is an advisor on ongoing PhD studies at the University of Copenhagen as well as the Technical University of Denmark, primarily in the fields of intracranial pressure monitoring and hydrocephalus.
The SummitFold and Nordic FreeFold logos embody our deeply held beliefs in streamlined and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces. They combine a clean Nordic approach with paper folding techniques to achieve beautiful results with as few elements as possible. This approach clarifies and informs our work everywhere in the apps we build.
